During the visit at #MAHLEIAA of Executive Vice-President of the EU Commission for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, Stéphane Séjourné, MAHLE CEO Arnd Franz underlined the urgent need for a clear political signal in favor of technology-neutral CO₂ regulation. Chancellor's tour at #MAHLEIAA Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited MAHLE on Tuesday as part of his opening tour at IAA MOBILITY in Munich. CEO Arnd Franz presented a highly efficient range extender system for battery electric vehicles. It consists of a particularly compact high-voltage generator that operates without rare earth elements, and a small efficient combustion engine. The system extends the performance of an electric vehicle's high-voltage battery and enables ranges of up to 1,350 kilometers with just one battery charge. Regarding CO2 regulation in Europe, Franz emphasized that the path to technological diversity must also be paved in Europe. “We need freedom for ideas, freedom for competition between technologies”, he said. Chancellor Merz expressed his enthusiasm for the range extender technology. He said he wanted to work to ensure that technologies developed by German companies are put on the road in Europe. Politicians set the goal: climate neutrality. The path to achieving this goal must be determined by engineers, not politicians, Merz said. In addition to products for purely battery electric vehicles, MAHLE is strategically focusing on advanced range extenders to eliminate customers' range anxiety and facilitate the transition to e-mobility. Efficiency drives the future: Production-ready MAHLE innovations for sustainable mobility #MAHLEIAA “Our products are not just visions. They are ready for series production and offer real solutions to real challenges of our customers,” said MAHLE CEO Arnd Franz in front of journalists at the IAA press day. He added that MAHLE’s highly efficient new range extender system including a high-voltage generator could extend the range of battery-electric vehicles to as much as 1,350 km—making it the “motor of e-mobility”. A compact thermal management module with integrated heat pump can extend the range of electric vehicles by up to 20 percent at low temperatures. In addition, MAHLE is showcasing components for combustion engines that can be operated on up to 100% ethanol, massively and immediately reducing the carbon emissions of the existing vehicle fleet. “MAHLE is doing its homework and working on the decarbonization of road traffic in all areas of technology. 30 million designs in under 30 minutes—lightspeed fast development with AI The MAHLE penguin-inspired bionic radial blower is boosting efficiency while significantly reducing noise emissions in automotive HVAC applications. A decisive factor for the rapid development process was MAHLE‘s own AI tool—merging bionic principles with MAHLE’s cutting-edge AI technology. Here’s how it works: MAHLE engineers guided the AI—with our AI Boost Loop, they were able to combine predictive AI and generative AI in a closed control loop. This enables the rapid generation and evaluation of 30 million fan blade designs—including performance data—in just 30 minutes. At MAHLE we call this “Superhuman Engineering“. MAHLE brings e-compressor production to the USA First MAHLE e-compressors for the North American market to be manufactured in Morristown/Tennessee. For decades, the Morristown plant has been producing steel pistons. Now, with the addition of about 50 new employees, the facility will begin manufacturing state-of-the-art e-compressors, bringing together components for combustion engines and electric vehicles under one roof. E-compressors are the beating heart of an electric vehicle's air conditioning and refrigerant circuit.
