MAHLE drives sustainability forward Significant progress in sustainability: MAHLE was able to further reduce CO2 emissions in production, supply chain, and products. Major successes in climate and environmental protection meant MAHLE made it onto the “A-list” of the independent organization CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) for the first time. As we use materials more efficiently in production and packaging processes, 80 percent of our total waste generation can now be reused or recycled. To increase transparency within the supply chain, MAHLE has introduced environmental, social, and governance (ESG) quick checks to comprehensively check and optimize the sustainability efforts of its suppliers. In addition, significant progress has been made in occupational safety again. “Sustainability is implemented in MAHLE’s key business processes and is a crucial field of action in the implementation of our strategy MAHLE 2030+,” said Georg Dietz, Member of the Management Board of the MAHLE Group and responsible, among other things, for sustainability, health, occupational safety, and environmental management, at the publication of the MAHLE 2024 Sustainability Report. From Fin to Future Mobility: MAHLE Bionic Radial Blower At this year’s Auto Shanghai , MAHLE presents a pioneering bionic radial blower for HVACs in automotive applications that improves efficiency while significantly reducing noise development. Designed for demanding installation spaces, especially in electric vehicles, this groundbreaking development was inspired by a model from nature: The aerodynamic shape of the fan blades has been modeled after the fins of a penguin, which glide swiftly and efficiently through the water. Thanks to this innovative design, the bionic fan is 4 decibels (dB) or 60 percent quieter in comparison to similar components. It is also about 15 percent more efficient as the motor requires less energy due to the optimized design. MAHLE is setting a new benchmark with this innovation. “The development of the new bionic radial blower underscores our comprehensive systems expertise in thermal management and benefits from the use of artificial intelligence,” says Jumana Al-Sibai , member of the MAHLE Group Management Board responsible for Thermal and Fluid Systems. “Evolution has equipped the penguin with fins that allow it to glide through the water with minimal resistance and, therefore, ultrahigh efficiency.
