At the recent IEEE AP-S/URSI Symposium in Ottawa, Canada, SAL presented a novel 3D-printed Butler Matrix based on WR12 waveguide technology for 1×4 antenna arrays, specifically designed for automotive radar systems at 77 GHz. This work is part of the Printed Radar project, a collaborative effort led by SAL together with PROFACTOR , TiGer, and Infineon Technologies . By leveraging additive manufacturing, our design enables compact, low-loss beamforming networks without signal crossovers – enabling scalable, cost-efficient, and high-performance radar front-ends. We are proud that this contribution was selected among the Top 10 Best Industrial Papers of the symposium – a great recognition for the entire team and our partners. We look forward to taking the next steps in high-frequency additive manufacturing and automotive radar innovation. A Ministerial Visit to SAL Villach: Peter Hanke at the Heart of Innovation On Friday, we had the great pleasure of welcoming Federal Minister for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure Peter Hanke to SAL Villach, as well as Deputy Governor Gaby Schaunig, Mayor Günther Albel and Member of the National Council Petra Oberrauner, who is also spokesperson for research and innovation and Deputy Chair of the Carinthian branch of the SPÖ since 2022. Following a warm welcome and the ceremonial signing of the Book of Honour of the City of Villach, the minister was guided through our facilities - including the Printer Lab, Quantum Lab, Laser Lab, Power Lab, and our cleanroom - the SAL MicroFab. Throughout the tour, our researchers had the opportunity to present their latest technological innovations and demonstrators – offering deep insights into the future of microelectronics and showing how research at SAL contributes to solving real-world challenges. A special highlight was the exclusive entry into our cleanroom, where Minister Hanke was given a close-up look at advanced processes and wafer technologies. As a thank-you gift and personal keepsake, he received a SAL wafer as a symbol of innovation made in Austria. To round off the day, Minister Hanke also visited the famous Villacher Kirchtag – where tradition and community spirit meet, just a few steps from where high-tech is shaping the future. We thank all contributors for their outstanding efforts and are grateful for the minister’s interest, engagement, and appreciation of our work. This visit once again showed how important close collaboration between research, politics, and industry is for driving innovation forward.
