Did you know that in Japan, folding 1,000 paper cranes is said to grant a heartfelt wish – often one of healing and peace? At Advocate Lutheran General Hospital’s Cancer Survivorship Center in Park Ridge, Illinois, 1,000 paper cranes have been folded and shaped into a heart, honoring the resilience of cancer patients, survivors, and their caregivers. To mark Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, members of our U.S.-based Asian American Pacific Islanders Employee Impact Group created this meaningful gift, inspired by the ancient Japanese tradition of Senbazuru (千羽鶴 ) and the story of Sadako Sasaki – a young girl who folded cranes in hopes of healing from leukemia. Today, her story continues to inspire acts of compassion and community. To accompany this gift, we donated $25,000 to support the Center.
